T

talking about ageing
ageing is a universal issue, so use words that suggest community and togetherness

team titles
Events team, not the Events Team (eg call the Events team, but just say 'call us')

Telephone Friendship Service
the brand name for our service which provides older people with a regular phone chat (formerly Call in Time)

telephone friendship services
the umbrella term for our phone-based services, including The Silver Line

they or it?
organisations are 'it' not 'they'
eg Citizens advice is a charity. It provides advice.

times
use the 12-hour clock – 4pm, 5.30pm, 11am, 10-11.30am, 11am - 1pm

time periods
in the past 6 months not in the last 6 months

titles (books, films, music)
Use title case but do not use italics, in print or online, eg The Shining

titles and subheadings
we use sentence case, not title case.
eg This is how to format a title, and This Is Not How To Format A Title
